I was Phyllis's last manager at IBM Research. This was a difficult period, but Phyllis handled it with great equanimity. We kept in touch by phone even after she left IBM Research and after her retirement. Recently, I thought about her and decided I need to call her again. I am saddened to realize that I should have acted faster.
