Phyllis C. Riel, of Goose Hollow Road, passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at her residence. She was 94. Born on April 30, 1916, in Dedham, MA, she was a daughter of the late Robert J. and Marion (McNamara) Buchanan and had been employed as an auditing and accounting manager for several firms, most recently, Monadnock Family Services in Keene, NH. She married Roland Riel on Aug. 16, 1937, in St. Mary's Church in Dedham and he passed away in May of 1992. She was a lifelong resident of New England until she moved to Scotia in 1974. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Verna Buchanan; and her brothers, Robert, Clifford and Clifton Buchanan. Survivors include her son, David Riel and his wife, Lauren Riel of Poland, OH; her daughter, Janet T. Koelbel and her husband, Paul Koelbel, Sr., both of Greenfield Center; two sisters, Dorothy and Marion Buchanan, both of Saratoga Springs; six grandchildren, Stephen (Doris Kim) Koelbel of Duxbury, MA, Daniel (Marla) Koelbel of Williamstown, NY, Linda (Kevin) Potasiewicz of Essex Junction, VT, Paul Koelbel, Jr. of Albany, NY, Adrienne Riel of Youngstown, OH, and Marc Riel of Cleveland, OH; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, by the Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Scotia. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Community Hospice of Saratoga, especially Kelli, Jodi, Colleen, Karen and Sandy as well as Dr. Christopher Hoy, Vickie Feulner, FNP and his office staff.
