Streiff, Phyllis B. 87, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2015. Memorial Service, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at First Unitarian Universalist Church, Fellowship Hall, 7202 E. 21st St. N., Wichita, KS. Phyllis was born on Aug. 11, 1928, in Kanopolis, KS. She moved to Wichita with her family in 1941. Phyllis graduated with an Associate Degree and the Schwing Piano Prize and Award for Excellence in Piano from Shimer College, Mount Carrol, IL, and from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. She also studied piano with Soulima Stravinsky, son of Igor Stravinsky. Phyllis taught elementary music in the Wichita Public School system as a substitute teacher. Phyllis was a beautiful, talented, creative, intelligent and incredibly strong woman. She showed us all how to be nonjudgmental, loving, free-thinking, unique individuals; how to look at the world differently and with humor; how to be empathetic; and, how to be determinedly strong in the face of adverse challenges. We will deeply miss her in our lives. She is survived by her daughter, Alison (Mark) Scott; twin sister, Marian Grubb; grandchildren, Hannah Scott and Taylor (Christy) Scott; great-grandchild, Elliot Scott; sisters-in-law, Celeste Streiff Hammond and Pauline Grubb. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lee Streiff; brother, Preston Grubb. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas, 555 N. Not sure what to say?

A lovely description of her life and accomplishments! She was creative, talented, loving and beautiful! She was my mother's good friend, my best friends mother. Phyllis has been a part of my life since I was a baby and I deeply feel her departure! But, I feel comforted that she has been set free.

So sorry Alison and the entire Scott Family. Wishing you love, peace and many wonderful memories of a mother who, from your tribute, was such an amazing woman and inspiration to your family and many others. Thinking of you all.
