Pierino "Peter" Marioni, 86, of 110 Prescott St., died Friday, October 26, 2012 in the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Lina (Carpana) Marioni; two daughters: Commander Maria Luisa Marioni, US Navy (Ret.), and her husband, Christopher J. Hanson, US Air Force (Ret.), currently residing in Naples, Italy, and working on a nearby NATO base, and Loretta Kovalski of Clinton; two grandchildren: Alexander Peter Kovalski, and his father, Brian Kovalski, and Serena Marie Tasi Hanson; two brothers: Gildo Marioni and his wife, Maria, and Giovanni Marioni and his wife, Rosanna, all of Valmozzola, Italy; two sisters: Rosa White, wife of the late Brian White, of Yorkshire, England, and Teresa O'Connell, and her husband, John, of Surrey, England; cousin Giuseppe Maestri and his wife, Bruna, their daughter Linda Goodnow, and her son Cody Goodnow, of Clinton; and nieces and nephews in Italy and England.

Peter was born and raised in Valmozzola, Parma, Italy, son of Giuseppe and Maria (Zanelli) Marioni, and remained there, working alongside his wife, Lina, in the family restaurant and bottega until 1966, when he immigrated to the United States and left the business to his brother. In his early 20's, he served with the Italian Army.

After settling in Clinton, Peter soon began working at the former Colonial Press of Clinton, where he remained until its closing. He then worked at Madison Wire & Cable, Worcester, for 17 years until his retirement.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, and enjoyed gardening, history, politics, and above all, spending time in the company of his loving family, especially his two grandchildren.

Peter's funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., in the funeral home. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Clinton Hospital Foundation, 201 Highland St., Clinton, MA 01510.
