I did my Ph. D under Prof Menon's supervision from '94 to '97. Until I started working with him in '94 and since my graduation in '97, I have not run into any other person so nice as him. Like others mentioned, he was such a calm person who could not be bothered even by the biggest disturbance of any kind happening around him. My deepest condolences to Mira and family. Prem was a light of kindness and calm in the ECE Department, and I am so sorry to hear that he is gone.


Prem Menon was more than an older brother to me.
I had known Prem since the day he landed in Seattle, when in 1957, Prem, Balraj Sokkappa and I rented an apartment together and became lifelong friends.
After graduation, we ended up in different cities, had our families, but kept close ties, and over years our friendship and affection was passed on even to our grandchildren. I was always seeking his advice and he gave it generously. Our children were very fond of Prem Uncle,...

Prem was my "biggest big brother" ,being the oldest of my siblings. He became a secondary "father" to his three younger brothers when the war years found us growing up in Kerala in the south-west of India,while our dad was in the jungles of Malaya. We were re-united in 1947. Prem has always continued to "father" us all his life in a very kindly way. For that, and so much more,we will always be grateful.
