Not sure what to say?

I never got to meet Pap but wish that I had, having only spoken with him once on the phone. My sincere condolences to his surviving immediate family.

When Pap retired from The Times in 1979, Dave Ivey became the new cartoonist/illustrator for the newspaper. Dear family and cousins, my deepest sympathy at your loss. I so wanted to

The flag is now at half staff at his home in Colfax in honor of a man who should be an inspiration to us all to work hard, but do what you love, and do it with kindness and compassion. We will miss you, Uncle Allen.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Preston Allen (Pap) Dean, Jr. our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Pap. And to Pap it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him...

Barbara, I so sorry to hear about Mr. Pap. I had really gotten close to him and Ms Jimmie while staying with them. He will be greatly missed. He had become my pal. I'll miss all his stories. Such an interesting person. Love all of you. Billie Marie

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. I always loved my conversations with Pap, it always surrounded our interests in art, family and history. I truly admired his talent and his many stories. I know he will be missed by many that loved and admired him. Karen Dean Ford (Natchitoches, La.)
