MACDONALD, R. DUNCAN Flint Attorney, age 72, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 2, 2016 at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint, Fr. Douglas Osborne officiating. Burial in New Calvary Cemetery. Mr. MacDonald will remain at Swartz Funeral Home at 1225 W. Hill Road in Flint Township where the Rosary will be said at 7 PM Friday. Suggested visitation is on Friday, July 1st between 2PM and 7PM at the funeral home, or Saturday, July 2nd, at 10 AM in the hour preceding the Funeral Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Genesee County Catholic Schools in memory of R. Duncan MacDonald and send them to Powers Catholic High School at 1505 W. Court Street, Flint, MI 48503. Mr. MacDonald was born in Flint, Michigan on October 14, 1943 to State Senator andAttorney Robert James MacDonald and Madeline Parkhurst MacDonald. He was a graduate of St. Matthews High School, the University of Notre Dame and Wayne State University LawSchool. He was married to Jacqueline Marie Pesik on June 24, 1967. He was a parishioner at St. Matthews Church for most of his life where he served as an altar boy and as a lector in later years. Duncan joined his father and Attorney Jack FitzGerald in the practice of law in 1968, in a firm dedicated to assisting injured and disabled workers. He continued to represent workers during the next four decades, working at various times with his father, as well as his brothersBrian and Tim, brother-in-law Tim, and son Robert. Duncan was known as a fierce and formidable advocate on behalf of his clients. He was a past lecturer on workers' compensation at the Michigan State University School of Labor, the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Over the years, he represented and advised thousands of Flint area workers including members of UAW Locals 326, 581, 598, 651, 659 and 1292. When General Motors closed the Fisher #1 Assembly Plant, he and his law firm purchased the UAW Local 581 Building and provided a place for former workers and retirees to congregate, and later donated the building to the Toys for Tots. Duncan was active in state and local Democratic politics throughout his life, and among his many accolades and awards, he was particularly proud of receiving the Andrew Jackson Transue Award at a dinner honoring him andGovernor Jennifer Granholm. He was a longtime member of the Flint Golf Club, the Flint City Club, the FlintUniversity Club and the Flint Elks Club. He was a member of the Notre Dame Club of Flint, the Sorin Society of Notre Dame and there was no bigger supporter of the Fighting Irish. Thefriendships he made while attending Notre Dame lasted a lifetime. Duncan was also an avid gin rummy player, and he loved to play cards and dice with his family and friends. Duncan's keen intellect and sharp wit will be missed by all.He was preceded in death by his parents Bob & Madeline MacDonald and his elder sister Marcia MacDonald Vick. Duncan leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife JacquelinePesik MacDonald; his son Robert MacDonald of Flint; his daughter Margaret George, and her husband Ron, of Royal Oak, MI; his daughter Amy MacDonald Balas, and her fiance Dan Rayala, of Manitowish Waters, WI; his daughter Martha Wilker, and her husband Chris, of Birmingham, MI; his son Duncan MacDonald, and his wife Jennifer, of Grand Blanc; and his son Joseph MacDonald of Boston, MA; ten grandchildren, William, Sarah and Karen George; Stephanie and Scott Balas; Jack, Julia and Emily Wilker; and Madeline and Sara MacDonald. He is also survived by many siblings and their spouses: Chrissie & Steve Hudgens of Flint; Pat &Mike McGonigle of Flint; Brian & Ginny MacDonald of Flint; Amy & Tim Simon of Grand Blanc; Stephen MacDonald of Flint; Tim & Ami MacDonald of Grand Blanc; Mary & JimLuxem of Winnetka, IL; and brother-in law Bruce Vick, and his wife Nancy. He is also survived by dozens of cousins, nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces whom he loved dearly.Nothing mattered more to Duncan than his love for his family, the MacDonald clan, and we will miss him deeply.
