Maybe I'll take up birthday fortnights for myself to honor Judge Scales--he seemed to enjoy his! I'll miss hearing his laugh, and his voice, and his semi-annual "Marcirita" phone calls and emails the last few years. I can still see him sitting on the bench in the 195th, doing all the judge things. And supper with him and Sarah years ago, at home and at the lakehouse, where I nearly got him with a fish hook but he didn't yell at me, bringing flowers from his rose garden to the courthouse for...
