Years ago Radcliffe traveled with me to the continent. What a wonderful, unique and enlightening experience! I will never forget his getting "lost" in the market because he wanted to talk with the vendors rather than shop. You could feel the impact of the people and the landscape on him and, ultimately, his work. He would stand and look while his mind absorbed the unique beauty of the experience.
