Ralph W. Riddell of Barrington since 1968 Services for Ralph W. Riddell, 91, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Community Church of Barrington, 407 W. Grove Ave., Barrington, where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Reverend Zina Jacque will officiate. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, in Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, Cary. Born Jan. 27, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, in Wauconda. Mr. Riddell was a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where he received a B.A. in physical education. He was a member and past president of the Theta-Chi Fraternity and served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a pilot for Delta Airlines for 31 years from 1946 until his retirement in 1977. He coached high school sports and he enjoyed bird feeding and horses. Survivors include his wife, Lillian R. (nee Grimm), whom he married May 16, 1942, in Waco, Texas; his children, Charles Randolph (Marion) Riddell of Houston, Texas, Todd Russell (Karen) Riddell of Pacific Palisades, Calif. and Catherine Anne (Theodore Bahora) Riddell of Pueblo, Colo.; and grandchildren, Mark and Scott Riddell, and Laurel and Justin Sweigert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna (nee Kirsch) Riddell; and a brother, Weldon. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Running Strong for American Indian Youth, 2550 Huntington Ave., Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22303 or to the Community Church of Barrington appreciated. Arrangements were made by the Davenport Family Funeral Home, Barrington, 847-381-3411.
