I am a retired 27-year USAF veteran and I served in Korea and Vietnam during those wars. You may find my story hard to believe. I was browsing the internet tonight (2-22-19) and came across a posting to the effect that Ralph Ritteman had died. Around April of 1953, I was stationed with the 474th Fighter Bomber Wing at Kunsan Air Base, Korea. My duty assignment was NCOIC of the Wing Personnel Section. Our Wing's combat aircraft was the F-84. I was selected to go on a couple of days...

Ralph Allen Ritteman
WW2, Korean War, and Vietnam vet. One of the first to graduate from West Point and become a pilot for the newly established USAF. Had his leg chopped off and sewn back on. Still flew even at the risk of losing it if ejection was necessary. Walked on it until he could walk no more. Flew over 243 successful missions for the military. At one point purchased most of what is now Okaloosa Island, lived in Alaska for a time, named 2 mountains, never took no for an answer....
