Major Shelton was a good and decent man who performed the tough tasks that most others would not. Pappy was a warrior and a true leader in the fight for freedom around the world, toiling in the dark places so the rest of us could live peacefully in the light. He will not be soon forgotten. de Oppresso Liber

Like so many others, MAJ Shelton was a tremendous influence in my life. I lost track of him for about 20 years and then found him through the internet while on a recent deployment overseas. Susan, thank you for helping arrange for me and my wife to get to visit with him in the hospital in May. I still remember all the words to "Put another log on the fire" thanks to the MAJ. He will be missed but never forgotten.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family of Major Shelton. He had a great influence on me when I was under his command in ROTC at Kingsbury High School in the late 70’s and also on his first Operation Wilderness trip in the Tennessee mountains. His leadership training was invaluable to me in my life. Major Shelton is one of those people who everyone remembers with respect and wishes they could have spent more time with. He will be greatly missed.

Major Shelton was a honorable man of class and dignity and one who shaped many as well as myself lives from childhood to adulthood. Although I lost connection with him over the years his teaching still remains. I pray that God will continue to comfort the Shelton family and remember we shall see him again!

I was a member of the ROTC program while at kingsbury High School, during the 70's, and Major Shelton was our leader, such an example of Love, Respect, Pride, for the program and for the Military. I can remember the dignity he demanded while you where a part of his program, and you had to be the best, and look the best. Major was a great man and Loved his country, Your family should be very proud even during this home going time. I thank God for sharing this man of yours, with student like...

As a young JROCT student in the late 70’s I had no idea how much influence you would have on me. I remember sitting through many of your lectures being amazed at your experiences and wisdom. You are single handedly responsible for teaching me about love of country, and respect for our freedom and the American flag. Thank you Sir! May God give comfort to your family.
