SNEAD, Mr. Ralph Carey, 81, of Kenbridge, Va., died August 23, 2009. Ralph farmed all his life, enjoying the outdoors and all wildlife. He was a caring neighbor, always willing to help anyone. He served as a deacon and honorary deacon in the Kenbridge Baptist Church, where he also served as assistant church treasurer for 20 years (1960-1980). He was predeceased by his infant daughter, "Little Angel," who died in 1953; his father, Hunter Snead "PaPa"; his mother, Nellie Terrell Snead "Mama Nell"; and three brothers, Landon L. Snead, Durward T. Snead and Kenneth C. Snead. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Helen Ferguson Snead; two daughters, Eula S. Gary (Bill) and Patricia S. Washburn (John), all of Kenbridge; two grandchildren, Susan G. Kreis (Tim) of Crewe and Steven Hunter Gary (Michelle) of Kenbridge; seven great- grandchildren, Theodore Carey Kreis, William John Colt Kreis, Joseph Morgan Kreis, Richard Karl Kreis, Hunter Powell Gary, Hayden James Gary, Lillian Ruth Elizabeth Gary; his brother, Hunter C. "Buddy" Snead (Katie) of Kenbridge; and his sister-in-law, Celia S. Snead of Kenbridge; and many nieces and nephews. He was a faithful husband, loving father, doting grandfather and great- grandfather, true to his word, and a loyal friend. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 in the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Snead family home on Tuesday (today) from 2 until 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Kenbridge Baptist Church Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 445, Kenbridge, Va. 23944, or to Hospice of Virginia, 202 Clark Street, Farmville, Va. 23901, or Lunenburg Health Services, 1428 6th Street, Victoria, Va. 23974. Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, in charge of services.
