He liked watermelon Jolly Ranchers, hot and spicy pork rinds, dancing up a storm, and his wife of just seven months. That was Ramon A. Villatoro Jr. Villatoro Jr., 19, of Bakersfield, Calif., was killed July 24 when an explosive detonated near his vehicle in Baghdad. He graduated from high school last year and was assigned to Fort Carson. His father said he got the idea to join up while watching the World Trade Center collapse. "''Dad, I''ve got to go and do something,''" he told his father. "I thought he was just kidding, but one day he came home and said ''Guess what? I joined the Army.''" In his freshman year, he met Amanda, and the two were together for most of high school. In December, he called Amanda and told her he was coming home on leave. That''s when he proposed. After being assigned to Fort Carson, he shipped out to Iraq in March. Two weeks later, he learned that Amanda was pregnant. He called home, and told his father to open the front door. There stood his bride, with a box in her hand. It contained a positive pregnancy test. "Dad, we''ve got great news," he said on the phone. "We''re going to have a family."

You were in our thoughts on Memorial Day. I have kind of made friends with your sister Crystal. She is such a beautiful girl. I know you would be so very proud of her.
