Always Helping the Family
Raul Hernandez was happiest at home having dinner and watching the New York Mets with his brother, or just talking on the telephone with his three sisters. No matter how tough his days were as supervisor of maintenance for Cantor Fitzgerald, Mr. Hernandez, 51, was never too tired to check in, sometimes talking for hours at a time. It was his duty, he used to tell his sister Gladys Estepan, trying to explain his need to be provider and protector. He yearned for the day when his two other sisters, who live in the Dominican Republic, would make their way to New York to be with the rest of the family. Even when money was tight, he would send $400 a month back home for them.
"We are only five children, a small family," Mrs. Estepan said. "He was to us like our mother and father, always wanting to help for the family. We hope in our hearts that he will come home and we can help him."

As I cross-stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.

I wore Raul's name on my paper heart as I sang in the Rolling Requiem last Wednesday. We sang in the Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg, an appropriately beautiful place for so solemn an occasion.
There were so many singers that we filled the main marble staircase and spilled over onto the second floor.
As we sang I was able to glance down at his name and wonder if somehow his spirit could sense our caring and our remembering. I hope so.
Sincerely,
Joan...

IN OUR HEARTS
We thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your...
