Born in Greenwood County, November 11, 1915, he was a son of the late Ravenel B., Sr. and Dora Milford Curry. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1937 graduate of Furman University. When the United States entered World War II he was commissioned an officer in the US Navy. After the war he returned to Greenwood to take his place in the family business, Citizens Trust Company. He was extremely active in the development of Greenwood and served his community on many boards throughout the years. Among the many boards upon which he served are the Mutual Savings & Loan, Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood Heritage Foundation, Genetic Center, and the board of Hospice Care of the Piedmont. He also formerly served on the Greenwood YMCA Board and has more recently been actively involved in promoting the Y's Scholarship Program. He served for many years on the Lander College and University Board of Trustees, and many more boards and services that were of direct benefit to Greenwood and the state. Boykin was honored by the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce with the distinction of being named twice to the Greenwood County Hall of Fame, first in 1955 and again in 1988. He was also honored by the Greenwood Rotary Club as "Man of the Year". He continued his association with Citizens Trust Company for many years after the sale in 1987 and remained very active until recently on many of the boards. He was very knowledgeable of Greenwood and its history and enjoyed every opportunity to discuss the matter. A longtime member and former deacon of First Baptist Church, he was also a member and past president of the Greenwood Rotary Club.
