Not sure what to say?

Hello, I just came upon this. My father was Ray´s baseball coach at Hawthorne High School. As a boy I used to assist him at practices and games, and my Dad said Ray was the best baseball player he ever coached. I would agree. I remember when the team was short of pitching and although an all star 1st baseman Ray took the mound and pitched (if memory serves me) 4 or 5 consecutive shutouts. Amazing memories.

Most people remember Ray for his athletic ability. Being All New England in both basketball and baseball is a tremendous accomplishment. I remember Ray as a leader with a huge heart that took time to help anyone that needed his guidance. They should retire number 1

Let the light from the candle shine on the ones you love

dad, i miss you more and more each day. i hope you are enjoying yourself with old friends and colleagues, having a michelob or 2, eating peanuts, and watching the sox win this series. you taught me more about life than i'll ever know or understand. thank you for being you and making sure that we always knew that our best today wasn't good enough for tomorrow. love mike, lauren, mikey, and elaine

The sadness of knowing this world has seen the passing of a good man like Ray is only eased by remembering the goodness he has accomplished. I lost my youngest brother Patrick on August 30 2012 to cancer and I still am broken hearted yet knowing of his charity and kindness eases that pain. I wish and hope for all the folks who loved Ray to find that peace and hope that has sustained me and know that he left much more than when he arrived. Know also that he was respected and loved by many...

Dear Tom and Ellerbrook family, Speaking for myself and the executive board and the entire membership of IAABO Board #31, please accept our sincerest condolences on the passing of Ray. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Ellerbrook Family
I had the good fortune of watching Ray play BASKETBALL in high school and then becoming his teammate at UMASS. Ray was as tough as nails leader on the court but was a great friend off the court. I am glad I had the chance to spend time with Ray this past June and to meet his sons. Our prayers go out from me and my family to Wendy and their children. God bless you all and God Bless Ray. He was a very special person. Peace John Betancourt

Ray was one of the first upperclassman to befriend me as a freshman in 1968. We shared a baseball/basketball connection that endured and we will forever be teammates. That wry smile will always be etched in my memory. Never forget the wonderful job he and Wendy did hosting our teammates after Julius was inducted into the HOF. And it was Ray who put the team on his back in the 1970 NIT game vs Marquette. He was so supportive of me in my battle vs cancer in the middle of his own incredible...

I never met Ray, but I know Tommy and want to send my deepest respects to the whole family. I know how deeply Ray will be missed.
