Ray L. Harmon, 71, of Round Rock, Texas went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. He was born July 1, 1938 in Bowie County, Texas to Jones G. Harmon and Lee Oma (Shelton) Harmon, the third of eight children. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne Harmon and one sister, Gwen Wetz.. Ray graduated from Texas High in Texarkana in 1956 and from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1964. It was at MSU that he met his wife Sheila. Ray worked for Mercantile Security Life of Dallas; Ministers Life and Casualty Union of Minneapolis, MN; Oklahoma Christian Universtiy of Oklahoma City, OK; Williamson County Sheriff's Dept., Georgetown, TX and various other jobs after retirement. Ray was an avid sports fan. He loved Oklahoma Christian baseball and basketball, the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks. He was also an avid golfer up until his health problems began in 2005. Ray was a deacon and an elder in the Church of Christ, where he served his Lord faithfully for over 52 years. Ray is survived by his wife of 46 plus years, Sheila (Wallace) Harmon, four children, Michael Harmon and wife Melanie and daughter Mirabella of Austin, TX; daughter, Karen Jeter and daughter Elissa of Round Rock, TX; daughter Nikki Cottingham and husband Randy and daughters Hannah, Julia and Gracie of Round Rock, TX; and Wallace Harmon and wife Jeri Ann and children Shambree, Skylar, Sterling and Simeon of Hutto, TX. Ray also leaves behind three brothers, Kenneth of Sugarland, TX; Wilbur of Austin, TX; and Richard of Broken Arrow, OK; two sisters, Mary Ruth Dunham of Omaha, NE and Kay Gaddis of Texarkana, AR, and two beloved aunts, Evelyn Shelton of Austin, TX and Alice Mae Hargis of Dallas, TX; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Ray Harmon Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Christian University, P.O. Box 11000, Oklahoma City, OK 73136. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Westside Church of Christ located at 3300 FM 1431, Round Rock, Texas. Cremains will be interred at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Hooks, TX on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 10:00 A.M.
