Dear Shannon & Family,
You may not remember me but I grew up in the neighborhood by the shop (111 e.31st terr.)I remember you and and your sons and truly remember Ray. He gave me my first job cleaning the store parking lot for a oven fresh do-nut and usually 50 cents. That was enough money in the 70s for me to go get my friends (The Maloneys)and take them back for fresh do-nuts and a smile from Ray. He gave me a sense of self satisfaction from having done a good job and reaping the...

I came to Kansas City in 1983 to attend medical school. I remember being in awe of the cross section of people and cars which would begin lining up about 45 minutes before the doors opened. Beat up construction trucks, limousines, ballplayers and celebrities, construction workers, regular folks from all walks of life. The common denominator was an appreciation for the best doughnut on earth, and the man who made them possible. On trips back to Kansas City I make a pilgrimage to LaMar's,...

so sorry to hear about about ray he was surely a great success story. also learned of the passing of norman and eleanor. gee it sure dont seem like that long ago when we were playing baseball in the street or kick the can playing cowboys and indians with those stinging rubber guns we made. when i look back all of us kids on the block had some very good times even on the very cold nights we would sleigh ride down the hill and warm ourselves when we climbed back up the hill with a fire in a...

Unfortunately, I've never had the fortune to have a LaMar's Donut, but will get one some day as I travel down the two lane highways.

Ray Lamar is an American original, one of those people that live up to the American Dream. People like him make this the great country it is. He also makes the open road (not interstates) the great pleasure to cruise.

I will be discussing him with my 7th graders in Round Lake.

Shannon,

My heart felt sympathy on the passing of one of the finest, most interesting men I have ever known. I hope he wrote down some of his great stories as we all discussed on so many occasions. He will be greatly missed by many of us. When things calm down for you please contact me so we can get caught up.
