Ray E. Maguire, age 73, of Treynor, Iowa, passed away December 27, 2009, at his home with his family by his side.

Ray was born at home in Pottawattamie County on September 8, 1936, to John F. "Frank" and Mary (Wahle) Maguire. He graduated from Treynor High in 1954, and married Virginia (Tiarks) on April 27, 1957. For many years, Ray farmed and later worked for Farm Service as a driver. He was an avid sports lover and longtime umpire, and referee for all sports in Southwest Iowa. Ray loved to dance, especially Polka's and was the New York Yankees biggest fan. He was a member of Zion Congregational Church where he served on the church council and cemetery board.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Matthew John; brother, Bernard; sister, Edna Tramonte; sisters-in-law, Audrey, Mary Lou and Sue Maguire.

Survivors include wife of 52 years Virginia "Jinnie"; daughters, Sheri Fry and husband, Jay, of Council Bluffs, Tami King and husband, Troy, Staci Robinson and husband, Matt; sons, Scott and wife, Susan, Russ and wife, Julie, Shonn and wife, Kathy, all of Treynor; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Roy Maguire, of Treynor, Harvey Maguire, of Omaha, Neb.; brother-in-law, Joe Tramonte, of Treynor; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family, Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral services Thursday, 10:30 a.m., Zion Congregational Church in Treynor. Rev. Ed Veldhuizen, officiant. Interment in Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Treynor Youth Sports Complex. Luncheon will follow services in church hall.

Ray was easy to talk to very frendly to me over the years

Dear Jinnie, Scott, Russ, Tami, Shonn and Staci,

We just heard the news and we are so sorry for your loss. Ray was a wonderful husband and father. We remember how much he loved life and yet, he loved his family even more. He will be missed.

I have so many fond memories of growing up with our two families sharing so many friend parties, especially Fourth of July, church socials, etc. May the time, love, and memories you shared with Ray bring you comfort during these most difficult days and those to come.
