Raymond Beltrami Obituary

Funeral service for Raymond Beltrami will be held at 6 p.m. today (Thursday, July 3, 2008), in the Chapel of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the service time today (Thursday) at the funeral home. Raymond F. Beltrami, 62, died suddenly July 1, 2008, after a courageous battle with mesothelioma (asbestos cancer). Raymond was born in Queens, N.Y., on October 14, 1945. His family moved to East Islip, N.Y., in 1954. Ray attended East Islip High School then joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Waller during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He then went to work for Grumman Aerospace where he helped build the Lunar Module. Then he worked for Suffolk County Water Authority. In 1975 he and his family moved to Ormond Beach. He went to work for The City of Holly Hill Water Department in 1979, where he most recently worked. He received his water treatment license from Clemson University and went on to become lab director and utilities supervisor. Raymond leaves behind his loving wife and best friend, Noreen. On July 8th they would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his two beautiful daughters, Rene' and Tara (John); mother, Gladys Beltrami; sister, Donna Raley; brother, Richard and his wife, Sarah; mother-in-law, Dorothy Mansel; brother-in-law, Mike; and sister-in-law, April; and four grandchildren, Thomas, Carter, Caitlin, and Dylan. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Beltrami Sr.; his brother, Robert Beltrami Jr.; and by his father-in-law, Thomas Mansel. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. Ray never met a person he did not like. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Ray always had an addictive glowing smile on his face. He said it takes less effort to smile than to frown. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Ray's memory to Smiletrain.org so a child can have a smile as beautiful as his was.Tributes may be sent to the family at www.mem.com.Arrangements are under the care and trust of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Ormond Beach.

Dear Noreen,
My prayers are with you and your family. Ray was a wonderful neighbor and has come to my rescue several times. Whenever I offered to pay him, he always said, "No, just do something nice for Noreen." What a nice man! We will all miss him very much.

Dear Beltrami Family, I worked under Ray for over 9 years and I got to meet a man who I instantly felt loyal to. When he called for me at work, I ran to him. I looked up to him as a superior that I would do anything for, not just a boss. He helped me on many occasions at work (anytime I asked) and gave me good, fatherly advice in my private life. Most recently,He and I would talk for about the last 15-20 minutes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights before he went home for the day. I always looked forward to those conversations. I will miss him coming in and saying "HI JEFF" with his smile and his sarcasm. I have many good memories. RAY WAS COOL! I cry as I write this but hopefully from this I will learn to tell the ones I love that I do love them and to cherish them a little more. I loved Ray and I WILL MISS HIM as I am sure all who knew him will also. I am sad! SEMPER FI

Dear Noreeen, Rene and Tara,

I know this is an extremely difficult time for all of you. He was a wonderful man. How often he bailed me out when I thought I could complete a project at the house but then would realize I was over my head. Rene would call Ray, and he would be there in 30 minutes, smiling ready to help me. I believe he did this for many, many people. Everyone I know loved him. I will miss him. I will make sure his grandons know what an honorable, couragious man he was. God bless you all, I am praying for you.

Noreen and Family~
I used to work with Ray at the City of Holly Hill. He was one of the most upbeat and energetic people I've met. His glowing smile and big laugh always brightened everyones day. He wasn't one to complain and always worked hard at his job. He spoke often of his great companion Noreen and his loving daughters. I am so sad for your loss, for all of our loss. Noreen please know that he looked forward to seeing you each day after work and that he cherished your Bamboo Garden dates. He would always tell me which sushi's to order when I would go there and discuss his sports collection with my fiance. God Bless you and your family! Ray is probably now the new greeter at the gates of heaven.

I am in shock. I worked with Ray at the City of Holly Hill, and I have to say he was one of the most energetic co-workers I knew. This is a great lost to his family and the City of Holly Hill. My condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Beltrami family.
