I was shocked to learn of Ray's recent death a few days ago, when I thought about sending him a birthday card. (Today would have been his 66th birthday.)

Although I haven't seen Ray in person in more than 20 years, we called or wrote each other from time to timeon 9/11, on our birthdays, when his mother and my father passed away, and on other serious and not so serious occasions.
