I was in the first grade in gorham ks when I saw a b29 go down. I told my father and we drove to the site and saw engines and other stuff as I remember. Do not remember much else but just found that the crew bailed out and raymond landed the b29

It is with great admiration and respect that I offer my condolences on the death of Col. Childress. I saw in the Express-News that he was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Greatest Generation. My late father-in-law, Henry Van de Putte Sr., was a Navy pharmacist mate aboard the U.S.S. PETEY......I DON'T KNOW IF YOU REMEMBER ME, BILL LAMBRECHT, I MET BOTH YOU AND RAY AT THE HEALTH CLUB ON AUSTIN HWY MANY YEARS AGO. YOU AND RAY ALSO CAME TO MY DAUGHTER'S (AMANDA) WEDDING. I ALWAYS HAD A GOOD LAUGH WITH BOTH YOU AND RAY ON OUR "SWIMMING DAYS". RAY WILL BE MISSED. MY WIFE AND I ARE NOW LIVING IN MEXICO AND MY DAUGHTER IS LIVING IN OUR HOUSE HERE IN SAN ANTONIO. I have known Col Childress since 1992, having met him at Fort Sam Golf Course. He was a very upstanding man and became my friend.
He will be missed by his family and friends alike. Our prayers are with his family..
