Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home - Navasota Obituary

Raymond Charles Collins, Jr., 25, departed this life Sunday, October 4, 2015 in Grimes County.

Visitation took place from 12:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, October 9, 2015, at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home and continued Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.

A memorial service was held at Brosig Auditorium, 100 Brosig at Washington Ave. in Navasota. Interment followed in Harmony Cemetery.

Raymond, a beautiful 10lb, 8oz, baby boy was born September 24, 1990 in College Station to Raymond Charles and Drucessa Johnson Collins. He attended grade school in Navasota and participated in Navasota Little Dribblers' basketball program, Boy Scouts, Pathfinders, Buffalo Soldiers, SWR Conference Youth Foundation program and basketball league and was a member of The Brotherhood, Grimes County Youth program. He later moved to Austin where he attended Del Valle High School. Raymond completed his education with Gary Job Corp Vocational training program in San Marcus, earning certifications in Warehouse Management and Forklift Operations. Raymond was a hard worker and quick learner. He began working and helping his grandparents in their small business around the age of 5. He had a great personality and warm smile.

Raymond loved the Lord and was always willing to participate in church programs and activities. He was baptized at an early age in the Smyrna Seventh-day Adventist Church of Navasota under the direction of Pastor Tyrone Douglas. Raymond loved to read the Bible, which he carried with him in his vehicle at all times. He often discussed the Bible with his grandfather, and was always ready to share with his mother the wisdom he received from those conversations.

Raymond met and married Emelda Madison of New Orleans and to this union a beautiful baby girl, Genesis Elise Collins, was born. Although the marriage dissolved, Raymond remained a devoted, caring father and often said his greatest gift was his daughter.

Raymond was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Elizabeth "Robertson" Johnson, grandparents, Alfred and Gloria Collins, uncle, Freeman Johnson and aunt, Ann McGowan.

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Genesis Collins; his mother, Drucessa Ireland (Cornelius); father, Raymond Charles Collins, Sr. (Lalita); sister, Divon Collins; brother, Jaden Raymon Collins; grandfather, Emmitt Johnson, Sr.; uncles, Emmitt Johnson, Jr. (Vergia), Albert Johnson, Rogers Johnson (Dorothy), Alfred Collins (Carolyn), Kirk Collins (Lavette) and Terry Collins (Ethel); aunts, Dorothy Harrison, Ethelean Johnson, Elanor Holiday (Roy), Mary Bradford (Charles), Kay Mills (Leon), Pamela Collins, Olivia Green and Lisa Williams (Tyrone); niece, Amelia Elizabeth and host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
