It was indeed sad news to learn of Ray's passing. Ray was a wonderful person and a highly respected scientist.
I appointed Ray to be an Associate Editor of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry in the 1970s because of his expertise and reputation. Ray was in part responsible for enhancing its status in the field of drug design, and it is now known to be the world's premier medicinal chemistry journal.

Dear Liz and family, we send our deepest sympathy and our support as you cope with Ray's passing. I was fortunate to have been one of his doctoral students, providing the basis for what would become a 35 year collaboration in the development of targeted radiopharmaceuticals and CT contrast agents. Dear Liz and family,
I was greatly saddened when I heard the news that Ray had passed away. I was so fortunate to be one of his students and would not be where I am today were it not for his support and encouragement. His enthusiasm for science was contagious, and I grew as a person as well as a scientist as I learned from him as a graduate student. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to know Ray.
