When Mr. D could not coax his high school (MHS) band into an adequate performance he would exclaim, "I'm so mad right now that, if I were to spit, the room would go up in flames!" Then he would walk calmly from the podium to his office and fill that room with cigar smoke. I share this glimpse into my short relationship with Mr. D with all possible respect. Dear DeMattia Family, "Mr. D" was a fantastic music teacher at Manchester School District. I played primarily snare drum in the marching band and the concert band. More important than the music that he taught us to play was the love of music, particularly classical music, that he instilled in us.
