Chadwick Funeral and Cremation Service, LLC - New London Obituary

Sunapee, NH  Raymond R. DiGiovanni passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 17th surrounded by family in his beloved home after a long illness.

He was born on June 28, 1937 in Malden, MA to Lugontino and Cecelia (Candelora) DiGiovanni. The oldest of four siblings (Donald DiGiovanni, Shirley Galvin, and the late Paul DiGiovanni), Ray graduated from Malden High School in 1955.

Ray served in the Marine Corps Reserves after high school where he trained as an airplane technician.  Ray dedicated the majority of his professional career as a QA engineer and manager with Raytheon Missile Systems before retiring in the 1990’s.

He is survived by his sweetheart Wilda J. (Lockhart) DiGiovanni whom he married in 1960 and his 4 children and their spouses: Robin and Warren Markowsky, Natalie and Richard Micciulla, Raymond Jr.  and Kellie DiGiovanni, and Craig and Terri DiGiovanni.

He is also survived by his much loved grandchildren, Peter and Harry Markowsky, Hannah, Julia and Lizzie DiGiovanni, and Andrew and Benjamin DiGiovanni.

The family lived for many years in Melrose, MA before Ray and Wilda moved to Sunapee, NH after retirement.  He taught us all the value of being kind, generous, dedicated, and most of all loving. Ray was proud of his family above all else.

Ray loved Boston sports and became an original Patriots season ticket holder in 1960 when the team was formed - tickets he held for many years.   Ray also loved music and many outdoor activities such as fishing. Upon retirement, Ray and Wilda were active in ORFS (outdoor recreation for seniors) in the Lake Sunapee area - enjoying kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, and socializing with friends over a glass of scotch or cognac.  He frequently volunteered his time and talents on various community activities and projects.

Ray was known as the life of the party for his wit and exuberance.

Ray was generous to all and could fix almost anything. If you needed advice, repairs, mortgages, a job, a car - he was the man to call. He was passionate about helping anyone in need.

A celebration of life will be held at Spinelli's in Lynnfield, MA on Friday, October 29th from 11:00am-noon with a reception immediately following. All are welcome to attend.

So sorry to hear about Ray. I so enjoyed working with him on projects in Sunapee. He was always the first to volunteer and a pleasure to work with. Thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Mr. DiGiovanni has a special place in my heart, he went to high school with my mother, and me and Natalie ended up best friends :) the universe has a beautiful way of intertwining us. My mother adored him, she said he was always kind and a gentleman. Every time I went to Nat's house he always asked about my Mom and that made me feel special. I Loved eating good food and laughing at the DiGiovanni house! You will be missed by your loved ones and friends....

My deepest sympathy to the entire family
Please know you are all in my thoughts

THE BEST UNCLE EVER. LOVE YOU XO REST IN PEACE

Papa i will miss you. I remember one of the times i visited and had to wear a boot because of a broken bone in my foot. That boot fell apart and you and i duct taped it all up so I could keep walking and playing with the girls. You always made me feel welcome when I would visit. Your smile was contagious and you knew how to make me laugh. I still crack a smile when i think about you duct taping my foot. Love always, Auntie Mary
