Ray Gilman ran Track for Hendrick Hudson. His team won the Western Westchester league in 1951, where he competed in, and won the One Mile events (setting a record). One which I read his time was 4:38. Learning now that an under 4 minute mile was not set until 1954.
The prior Fall, Ray led his HHHS Football team as a running back. Finishing 2nd place, undefeated until the last game.

A fond memory of my Uncle Ray. When I was about 4 we used to go to his football games. I remember the players seemed so big, especially him. When they took the field it sounded like a herd of horses. Each time he scored a touch down, he would run over and pick me up. A little girls fantasy come true.
His loving niece.
