Raymond Glenn Herndon, Jr., peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in Spotsylvania, Virginia. He was born to Jean Ethel Herndon and the late Raymond Glenn Herndon, Sr. on April 16, 1967, in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Affectionately known as “Glenn” and “G-Money” to those close to him was educated in the Spotsylvania County school system.
Glenn became an arborist at an early age under the direction of long-time employer and friend, Sam Rowe and his lovely wife Janice Rowe. Glenn was a dependable and loyal employee. He had no fear when it came to climbing the tallest of trees and was an expert with a chainsaw.
Glenn loved life to the fullest. He loved music and loved to dance. He would get on anyone’s dance floor at a party and turn it out! It’s been said that Glenn also loved karaoke and would put all that he had in his performances! So much so that he would receive standing ovations! In addition to busting a move, Glenn loved to go fishing, loved to cook, and loved a good conversation. In addition to the activities mentioned, Glenn liked taking pictures. The picture of the “Herndon Road” sign used in this program was taken by him.
Glenn had the ability to remember people’s birthdays. All you had to do is tell him your birthday one time, and he would never forget it. He would let everyone know on that day that it was your birthday and would contact you if he could. Above all these things said about Glenn, he loved his family without measure and enjoyed spending time with them and friends. High on the list of spending time with was his granddaughter, Zoe Arrington, who he was especially proud of.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Glenn Herndon, Sr.; paternal grandparents, John Herndon, Sr. and Josephine Herndon; and his maternal grandparents, John Otis Tyler, Sr. and Thelma Tyler.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Shaniqua Herndon (Zach) of Locust Grove, Virginia; a granddaughter, Zoe Arrington of Locust Grove, Virginia; his mother, Jean Ethel Herndon of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his brothers, Christopher George Herndon of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Dana Robinson of Warrenton, Virginia; his sisters, Lutrica Grenise Herndon and Contina Sherease Herndon both of Spotsylvania, Virginia; his sister-in-law, Tinika Herndon; as well as a very special friend, Sylvia Burns; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
Glenn will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. The internment will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Spotsylvania, Virginia.
