Raymond Dayton Herrick passed away Jan. 31, 2008 of cancer at home with his family by his side. Raymond was born to Fern and Dayton Herrick in Minneapolis and raised in Duluth. He graduated from Ordean, East High School, and UMD with a degree in accounting. He was a controller of a local company for too many years and then became an entrepreneur. He zeroed in on learning about antiques, vintage articles, and collectibles. He began a successful business buying and selling on e-bay. Raymond participated and enjoyed sports. Ray was an excellent swimmer. He skated in the ice follies at the old curling club. He was a golfer (upper flights, won a Nemadji Tournament in the 70's), he bowled in the Majors (some 300 games and a few 800 series). He was quite a formidable opponent in a pool or billiard game. Raymond also loved fishing streams, rivers, and lakes (especially on the BW). Raymond was an intellect with many talents, hobbies, and interests. He also enjoyed a challenging game of chess, scrabble, and cards (especially with his twin). He was an avid reader and thoroughly researched subjects of interest. He gardened extensively and also landscaped. He took great pride in his vegetables, fruits, flowers, shrubs, trees and rock beds. His many friends will remember his quick wit, sense of humor, his antics (sometimes annoying) and his knowledge of topics. His stamina and a good cup of coffee made for an intense and unending work ethic. Ray would always strive to do his best and to do it 'his way.' Raymond is preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Ramona. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marcia; his precious daughter, Susan; and his beloved son, Matthew; his loving and caring sisters, Charlene (Henry Freynik) Herrick, Roberta (Don) Nowakowski, Marsha (John) Signorelli; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. A special thank you to St. Mary's hospice, the Oncology doctors and staff, and family and friends for making his journey smoother and less painful. SERVICES:will not be held per Ray's request. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota, 218-624-5200.
