ln the late 1970´s, I left the teaching profession and went to work as an underwriter trainee for Safeco Insurance. Shortly thereafter, I went to the Home Office Underwriting Training School and it was there that I met Ray Hughes. The impact of his scholarly curriculum stays with me to this day. As a long-time member of Safeco Insurance, I'm so saddened to hear that we lost one of our true leaders both personally and professionally. His legacy will live on in many ways.

I was fortunate enough to work with Ray when I first started at Safeco and then later in my career. Ray was a tremendous tutor in my first three years where he helped me learn our business and how to work effectively with agents.
