Not sure what to say?

Ray Lutz held the position of Professor of achemistry at Portland State University during my time of undergraduate and graduate of Chemistry. I will always remember Ray as a patient and caring man with no limit of time he was available for help and advice.

Dr. Lutz was a very kind man. He had a deep care for his students and I was privileged to be one of them. I will be forever grateful for his encouragement and help.

Ray Lutz was quite the professor. His approach to chemistry was different than anyone else I've ever encountered - and the way he taught it was quite unique. Dr. Lutz was quite the professor. His organic chem courses were difficult, but he wanted to make sure we all learned as much as we possibly could. His approach to the subject and discipline of chemistry was unlike that of anyone else I've ever met. I look back on my education years at PSU and OSU fondly, but whenever I think about organic chemistry, he's the first person I think of. He was very committed to teaching and admired and respected by all.

I am just learning of Ray's passing. I joined the PSU chemistry faculty in 1989 and occupied an office just three doors down from Ray. He was a gracious and thoughtful colleague and always willing to provide guidance and insight. His students spoke very highly of him and on his retirement was missed by all.

A very nice man who became friends with my mother Mary Ellen at Willson House
