Manning-Heffern-O’Neill Funeral Home - Pawtucket Obituary

Raymond E. O'Neil, 81, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Angelina (Palumbo) O'Neil for 53 years. Born in Seekonk, he was the son of the late James and Lillian (Don Carlos) O'Neil.
Ray was a proud Army Veteran, rifle expert, and Army Sharpshooter. He worked in the tracking station of the Mercury Friendship 1962 Mission, the first manned space flight to orbit the earth, manned by Col. John Glen.
Ray was raised in Little Compton, RI, where he began a lifelong love of fishing, boating, lobstering, clamming, and hunting. He enjoyed boats, motorcycles, guns, camping, and antiquing.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by three children, Chris O'Neil Gamache and husband Brian, Kathy O'Neil Evans and husband Christopher, and Raymond Michael O'Neil; three sisters, Frances Harrington, Lillian McGovern, and Mary O'Neil, and six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late James, Michael, and Doris O'Neil, and his faithful canine companion Maggie.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at the Providence Veterans Hospital.
The services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit at the Providence Veterans Hospital.
