RAYMOND SCOTT PENNINGTON

LUMBERTON — Raymond Scott Pennington, 63, of Lumberton, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born on Feb. 25, 1959, in Guilford County, to the late Raymond Benjamin Pennington and the late Shirley Cook Pennington.

Scott was a lifelong sports fan who excelled in all sports as a young man. His love for sports carried him through all stages of life. He often said that his training at Lumberton High School under the leadership of coaches such as Finley Read, Tommy Thompson, Tuney Brooks, Mac Porter and Paul Willoughby prepared him for all of life's challenges. Scott's love for his family was deep and undeniable.

Probably the role that suited Scott best was being "Scooter" to his three grandsons. The days he spent teaching and coaching his first grandson, Sellers, to hit and catch a ball were some of his happiest days. And he was the best "dog dad" to his precious pups, Holly, Penni, Huck and Dixie.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Pennington; his daughters, Kelly Springs of Wilmington, and Marcie Gettys (Kyle) of Florence, South Carolina; his sister, Jeri Hyland (Dick) of Scottsdale, Arizona; his niece, Kaycie Hyland Ressa (Ryan) and their children, Raif and Callen of Scottsdale, Arizona; and three grandchildren, Sellers and Addison Gettys, and Daughton Daniels.

The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 E. Fifth St. in Lumberton. Following the visitation, a memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. at Floyd Memorial Chapel with Rev. John Butler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robeson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 3609, Lumberton, N.C. 28359.
