CHICOPEE – Raymond F. Rheaume, 89, a retired member of the Chicopee Fire Department, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Born in Chicopee on April 15, 1925, he was the son of the late Raymond F. and Sarah (Card) Rheaume. Ray served his country as a member of the U. S. Marine Corps and was discharged with the rank of Corporal. During his service, he participated in action against the enemy at Saipan from June 15, 1944 to July 9, 1944; Tinian from July 24, 1944 to August 3, 1944; Iwo Jima from Feb. 23, 1945 to March 16, 1945; Kwajalein from Jan. 31, 1944 to Feb. 7, 1944 and was discharged on November 15, 1945. He returned to Chicopee and began his career with the Fire Department, where he served for 40 years and retired in 1990 with Badge #1. Ray leaves his wife of 61 years, Joan M. (Beaudoin) Rheaume, a son, Jeffrey Rheaume of Canandaigua, NY, 3 daughters, Judith Rheaume of Watertown, MA, Mary Garvey and her husband Alan of Suffield, CT and Christine Isom and her husband Gary of Feeding Hills, MA and 5 grandchildren, Ryan Garvey and his wife Kimberly, Emily Garvey, Hannah Garvey, Chelsea Isom and Olivia Isom. He was predeceased by each of his brothers and sisters, Ruth Baker, Esther Sicbaldi and Robert Rheaume. The funeral services and burial will be held privately for Ray's family. The Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee is in charge of the arrangements. Sorry to hear about Ray. Worked with Ray quite a few times in the early 70's at Station 3, when Val was out Ray was acting Captain (Bob Ryan, Joe Piela, Tom Dzialo, Ed Mruk, Adam Wasik)

Sorry to hear of your father/grandfather's passing. I fondly remember him in Ogunquit, Maine on the Marginal Way. He was such a sweet and gentle man. Take comfort in knowing he is now at peace.
