Both at Bard College--and during a fortuitous reunion in Dublin, ca. 1992--we had the most enjoyable and wide-ranging conversations, most of them beginning and ending with our mutual love of Ancient Greek poetry. He was one of the most intelligent, and also one of the gentlest, people I ever met or will meet. Bless you Ray!
