Read MoreI was one of his biggest fans. I saw him speak at a Mathematical Association of America dinner in the early 80's in Rochester NY. He brought smiles and laughter to the audience. I didn't realize he had passed until now. I would like to extend my deepest condolences and prayers to his wife and family.

Ray Smullyan and Martin Gardner were the two minds that introduced me to the novelty of math as everyday practice. They both share honored places in my personal library. There's significant loss in knowing that like Mr. Gardner before him, Dr. Smullyan has now left behind a noticeable void, as well. May their bestowed educational traditions be carried onward. In my own memory, their academic influence will indeed continue to flourish without bound.
