Raymond C. Staab, 81, died at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Staab had been a resident of Nashua, NH for the past four years.

Ray Staab was born in 1926, the eldest son of Theo and Louise Staab, of Pittsburgh, PA. As a 20-year veteran of the U. S. Army, he fought with the 94th Infantry Division in Europe during WWII, rising to commissioned rank. He participated in the Korean conflict in 1950 and 1951 and was the recipient of numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After his retirement from military service in 1964, Ray pursued a second career in banking, until his retirement in 1984 as president of the Siwooganock Guaranty Savings Bank in Lancaster, NH.

Ray Staab was an avid golfer and a member of the Dufferin Golf Club (Stanstead, Que.). He was a keen social bridge player and his interest in current events and history made him a fan of incisive satire. He enjoyed spending time at his retirement home in Titusville, FL and his summer cottage in Derby, VT.

Mr. Staab is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruzena, whom he met in 1945 during the liberation of Czechoslovakia. Mr. Staab is also survived by two daughters and a son: Jana Busse and her husband, Enno, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Lydia Esposito and her husband, Umberto, of Dumont, NJ; and Charles Staab and his wife, Cheryl, of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by three granddaughters: Heather Staab of Nashua, NH, Kathryn Staab of Brookline, MA and Maria Esposito of Dumont, NJ.

Funeral and graveside services will be held in the spring of 2008. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport, VT (802-334-2720). In lieu of flowers, the family asks any contributions be made to the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054. On line condolences may be sent to the family through the funeral home website: www.curtis-britch-converse-rushford.com.

Not sure what to say?

To the Staab family,
My parents (Louis & Gerry Barber)told me of your recent loss. I remember the warmth of your family home on Caswell Ave. Mr. Staab was a nice gentleman & know my parents so much enjoyed working at the bank/playing golf with him. Hope the happy memories of him help you cope with his passing. My sincere condolences.

Fondly, Jan Barber Caswell

Ruzena and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Ray's passing. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and we hope you find comfort in the many memories that you have.

Dear Ruzena: We are so sorry to hear of Ray's passing. We didn't get to see much of either of you this year at Dufferin but hope you will be there next year. You are a strong person, so we know you will get through this sad time. Ray has lived a good life and you have made many happy memories together. Guess that's what it's all about! You are indeed in our thoughts and prayers. God's Blessings to you!

Mrs. Staab,
I was sorry to read about your husband's passing. You probably don't remember me, but you used to play bridge with my mom, Donna Craggy and I remember you coming to our house. My prayers are with you all, as it is not easy to lose a loved one.

Dear Ruzena and family,
Ed and Nancy called to let us know of Ray's death. We send our deepest sympathy. We were with Ed and Nancy a few weeks ago and were remembering all the fun times we had with you and Ray. Love, Bob and Marty Lewis

With deepest sympathy,
Domenic & Donna Pallaria

Ruzena,
We are so sorry to hear about Ray's passing. We had seen you both several times at Dufferin this past summer; and although we didn't get to play golf together this year we fondly remember the times we have played together. We also remember visiting you at your lovely condo in Titusville, and your home on Lake Salem. If you come up to Derby next spring or summer please do give us a call.
Our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Ray was a "great" guy!!
Best...

My sympathies to you all from a neighbor long ago
