Hodges Family Funeral Home - Dade City Obituary

Raymond Charles (Ray-Ray) West Jr. passed away on Sunday December 18, surrounded by his loving family, in San Antonio, Florida. He is preceded in death by his father: Raymond Charles West Sr. and brother William West.  Ray is survived by his amazing 104-year-old mother, Kathryn Hurley West, of Syracuse, his wife of 54 years, Dolores (Napoli) West, his daughter and son-in-law Dr. Lori (West) and Mr. Milo Peterson of Austin, Texas, and the loves of his life, grandchildren: Airman 1st Class Milo L. Peterson of Hawaii, Sarah Kate and Jessica Leigh Peterson of Texas. Ray also leaves behind his 99-year-old mother-in-law Catherine Napoli of Camillus,  his brother Tom (and Judy) West of Marcellus, his brother-in-law John (and Marion) Napoli of Camillus, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ray was born and raised in Syracuse, graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1956, and was a veteran of the United States Navy.  After a career with Niagara Mohawk, he and his wife retired and moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, then to San Antonio, Florida.  Ray and Dolores were world travelers and cruisers and they enjoyed vacationing with their grandchildren.  Their adventures took them around the world from Alaska to Central America, the U.K., Western Europe, Russia, Estonia, Greece, and every island in the Caribbean. When Ray wasn't basking in the Florida sunshine at the pool or on the golf course, he enjoyed volunteering at his church food pantry.  But, Ray's greatest joy in life was being a doting grandfather.  He was a vibrant presence to all who knew him and will live on in the lives of all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make a donation in Ray's memory to Gulfside Center for Hospice Care In Zephyrhills, 5760 Dean Dairy Rd., Zephyrhills, FL 33541 or to St. Rita's Catholic Church, 14404 14th St., Dade City, FL 33523. Cards may be sent to Dolores West 11103 Jenkins Ct., San Antonio, FL 33576.
A mass will be held on December 22 at St. Rita Catholic at 10:00 am in San Antonio, FL. Inurnment will be at Florida National Cemetery on December 23 at 11:30 am.
