Raymond J. ZWICK

Ray was invaluable to everyone at the paper, reporters for sure, but also editors. He could locate something in the files in one minute that might take the rest of us an hour. But more important was the fact that he was just a really nice person.

Ray was a colleague,a friend, and a gentleman in every respect. My sympathy to his family.

Ray was one of a kind: always had a juicy tidbit, or was able to find that little piece of data or ancient photograph, that no one else in the Enquirer library could. When my cousin, Erin, asked about genealogy research, Ray helped him search through Enquirer archives (which he rarely opened to the public). He was a wonderful carpool companion on occasion, and did a lot behind the scenes to check in on other Enquirer folks who lived alone...Janelle Schwein, among them. Whenever I ran into...

Ray was one of the best guides a newcomer could encounter at the newspaper. He was kind, funny and generous with his time (and with his great stories about coworkers). He was missed from the day he retired, and will be remembered happily by everyone who knew him.

A fine fellow who helped me in every way possible in my 10 years at The Enquirer.

Family of Ray Zwick
The Class of 1963 at St. Margaret Mary in NCH on Saturday night celebrated their 50th class reunion. We even mentioned Mr. Zwick as our first male teacher. Most of us had Lois Zwick as our 3rd grade teacher. So sorry we never had a chance to let him know how much we enjoyed his class. He was a great 6th grade teacher!!!

I had the good fortune to work with Ray at the Enquirer for almost thirty years. But more than co-workers I can say that Ray and I were good friends for all those years. I can't even begin to count the times he stopped whatever he was doing to provide assistance when asked. He will live on in warm memories.

I think I speak for many of Ray's former colleagues at The Enquirer when I say how saddened we were to learn of his passing. Ray's wit and efficiency at finding information (or knowing it outright) made completing a story a lot less daunting when a deadline was looming. It is with friendship and sincere gratitude that we say goodbye or more fittingly: #30.
