It was an honor to be Rebecca Baker's daughter-in-law. I am so grateful for all the love she gave her family, for the amazing example she set for her children, grand-children, and her community. My heart filled with sorrow to learn of the loss of Mrs. Baker. She was a strong, bonafide Black woman that loved her family and constantly spoke of them with pride. She stood up for those who lacked a voice in the community and was strong in her convictions. She will always have a fond place in the hearts of the many lives she touched. My amazing grandmother represents the entire city of Gary, Indiana, as a place where a young woman from the South came to run an entire housing project through hard work and dedication.
