Rebecca Gayle Hutchens
Sept. 27, 1991-April 20, 2024
After a seven-year battle with cancer, our wonderful Ray of Sunshine joined the Light of the World in heaven. She made it her mantra to “say yes” when asked to do, give, join, or help. She leaves a legacy of love and joy; frowning was not in her nature.
She leaves behind her parents, John and Gayle Hutchens, of Ballwin, MO; her sister, Victoria (Brian) Andrew of Houston, TX; her brother, Timothy (Amber) Hutchens, of Kansas City, MO; her brother, Nathaniel Hutchens, of Lakewood, CO; her fiancé, Patrick Meyers, of Springfield, MO; four nephews: Penn, Hutch, and Arch Andrew and Jeremiah Hutchens; her grandfather, Paul Hutchens, of Chesterfield, MO; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, as well as her beloved cat, O’Malley.
Becca graduated from Parkway West High School in 2010. She graduated in 2015 from Missouri State University, where she was an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Becca lived in Springfield, MO, where she worked as a buyer for Bass Pro Shops Headquarters. Known for her positive outlook, loving nature, and fantastic sense of humor, she enjoyed origami and also had a passion for fashion. In addition to hemming pants and stitching on the coolest patches for her brothers, mending the occasional stuffed animal for her nephews, and making other repairs, she even made a wedding dress for one of her sorority sisters. She always thought of others, and especially used her talents in a variety of crafts to bless those she loved with homemade gifts. She cherished family and friends, loved sports-cheering and playing-and, after falling in love with Patrick, even loved fishing!
She faced melanoma with remarkable courage and stoicism, and she refused to let the pain from the cancer and her treatments prevent her from spreading happiness and spending time with loved ones. We praise God for the hope we have and for the memories we made, but we feel a hole where our hearts should be. While we mourn that she will not be here to share in the future days, we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We know that although she cannot come to us, we will one day go to her. We rest in the confidence that she has found complete peace and healing in the presence of the Lord. She is finally out of pain.
In light of the joy Becca always shared, we have planned a celebration of life for the weekend of May 18. A visitation will be held Friday, May 17, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Rd., Ballwin, MO. On Saturday, May 18, a Memorial service will be held at West Hills Church, 13250 S. Outer Forty, Town & Country, MO, beginning at 12:00 noon, with a reception to follow at the Pavilion at Ballwin Pointe #1 Ballwin Commons Circle, 63021.
In lieu of flowers, and because of her love of the Lord and cats, please consider donating to West Hills Church or Watching Over Whiskers; 3014 E. Sunshine St., Ste. E; Springfield, MO 65804.
Please let Becca’s love of daisies and flamingos lift you up. Whenever you see one, remember our Becca.
