Rebecca Steele Matheny

Sincere condolences to family and friends. I met Rebecca in the late 1990's while she worked at Cambridge Housing Authority. She stunned me with her genius & creativity and was meanwhile so much fun to work with. She carried power with humor, kindness, passion and humility.

What sad news. Three decades after she was at Tufts UEP, Rebecca's photo brought back memories of her easy laughter and her wise approach to civic engagement. One of my best decisions was to ask to be paired with Rebecca as one of the field teams involved in the Harvard Cost Study whose charge was to advise Congress on what it should cost to operate good public housing. We traveled to housing authorities across the country, but my favorite visit was to Atlanta where she insisted on introducing me to warm Krispy Kreme donuts coming off a conveyor belt at their original location. We feel so lucky to have had Rebecca in our lives, forging a friendship in college that was so easily picked up even after long lapses in seeing one another. Our deepest condolences to her children and family at this time of great loss. The world is a bit dimmer without Rebecca in it, and we will miss her so.
