Called Home to Glory: December 8, 2024
Reginald Tyrone Gaither, known fondly as Reggie, was born on February 5, 1971, in Chapel Hill, NC, to James and Lucille Gaither. He was called home to glory on December 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, commitment, and selflessness.
Reggie was raised in Durham, NC, until the age of 9, when his family moved to Trumbull, CT. There, he thrived as an active and engaged young man. Throughout his junior high and high school years, Reggie excelled not only academically but also in sports and music, particularly as a member of the school band. He demonstrated leadership in numerous school, church, and community organizations, including Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Reggie gave his life to the Lord, being baptized on Good Friday at Messiah Baptist Church. He held numerous leadership positions within the church.
After graduating from high school, Reggie pursued higher education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Banking and Finance. During his college years, he was awarded the prestigious In Roads scholarship, which opened doors for his professional journey. After graduation, Reggie moved to Indianapolis, IN, where he worked in banking before deciding to further his education with a Master of Business Administration at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
In 2002, Reggie began his career in Human Resources, focusing on Labor Relations. His career allowed him to touch countless lives, and he quickly became known for his strong work ethic, unwavering dedication, and deep empathy. Many people who worked alongside Reggie will forever remember his commitment to excellence and his constant availability. His family often joked that he could not go anywhere without his work phone, always ready to help or offer advice.
Reggie embodied the true meaning of hard work, reliability, and love for others. He was a dependable, family-oriented man with an unwavering foundation in his faith. Those who knew him best described him as a steady presence—someone always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a kind smile. His love for others was evident in everything he did, and he found joy in supporting those around him. It’s no surprise that Reggie earned the affectionate nickname “the supervisor” among his loved ones. He led by example, always willing to teach, guide, and encourage, no matter the task.
Above all, Reggie’s life was defined by his deep faith and devotion to his family. He believed that friends were family, and family was the most important thing in life. No matter the distance or the circumstance, Reggie made it his mission to show up for those he loved—offering his support, love, and guidance. When he was not working, he spent hours attending the many activities of his nieces and nephews. And always making sure to cook for the family at gatherings. His legacy of caring and selflessness will be forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Reggie leaves behind to cherish his memory and honor his life: his parents, James A. and Lucille Gaither; his beloved sisters, Kimberly Hailey (Silver Spring, MD) and Robyne (N'gai) Friday (Stone Mountain, GA); his nephews, Deigh Carlos (Stone Mountain, GA), Dylan Friday (Stone Mountain, GA), and Liam Hunter Heath (Asheville, NC); along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as his uncles, Beverly Garrick and William Gaither.
Reggie’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May his memory be a blessing to all.
