Reid was my role model, friend, colleague, and mentor. I've known him for 48 years, and have always treasured him. Before I met him, I heard him on a Harvard radio station live marathon for local jazz groups. My friend Steve Catalano and I jumped up, grabbed our sax and congas, hopped a bus and went to the radio station. The Ron Gill Group was still playing. Amazingly, Ron waved us to come into the studio to play with him, Manny Williams on piano, Billy Hill on bass, and Reid on drums. ...
