My deepest condolences to the whole Treffkorn family. I was in Jonathan's class at Rio Del Mar Elementary School. I remember many nights of joining my brothers at Boy Scouts in the Rio Del Mar gymnasium where Mr. Treffkorn joined the other parents to spend time with their children and teach them about the outdoors. I always remember the Treffkorn Family as one of deep love and togetherness, valuing family higher than all else, much like my own European family. Jonathan -- your father will...

Me - nowadays

It is a strange feeling when a younger friend dies before the older one.

Remco and I went to the same high school in Hamburg, Germany. We had known each other since the 70s of the last century.
It are the youthful memories, which I partly share with Sibille, his (later) wife:
- The soup plate with the children's motif, on which he etched the first plates.
- The installation of an amateur antenna to his parents' bungalow.
- His boundless astonishment that Sibille had the...

What stands out most about Remco to me was that he helped whenever he could. When I needed a version of MS Word for school and work, when I needed a laptop, when I burnt the bottoms of my potstickers black, when his co-worker's son needed baby sitting, when anyone needed to move, it goes on and on. In him I had a place to turn when in need, and I will remember him by trying to do the same.

I learned so much from my dad. I hope I can be as good a father to my kids as he was to me and my brothers. There's no way to write how much he'll be missed. The world is a suckier place without him in it.

Jonathon I am just so terribly sad to hear this.
I never met your father but Molly spoke so highly of him, his cooking, your mom and the closeness and love of your family.
All of you try and hang in there and get through this together.
My thoughts are with you.

4 candles for each day I had to wake up without you.

I don't think I can write anything about my dad that hasn't been written better elsewhere. He was funny as hell, an amazing cook, a genius. The best dad. He wasn't an overly emotional guy but I didn't really need that. He was the father I wanted and needed exactly as he was. He deserved better than this world.

Remco was the best father-in-law a girl could ask for. He was the go-to man for sage advice regarding ANYTHING, whether you needed help with something that you'd broken to a life event you couldn't quite figure out, he was the man with the answers. Remco was also an amazing caretaker, going out of his way to help anyone in need. He had the most generous spirit and would gladly give all of himself to support another. I will forever miss his silly jokes and amazing meals. I'll miss his...
