I grew up in Van Nuys, just a few doors down from Rene, in the 1960s-70s. I knew his entire family and they were like a second family to me. Rene piqued my interest in cycling and fifty plus years later it is still my favorite hobby. He used to take a group of us kids on a 5-10 mile ride in Van Nuys.
