Lorne and Sons Funeral Home - Delray Beach Obituary

Renee Jean Cook (Winkler) of Delray Beach, Florida passed away peacefully at home at the age of 62 surrounded by family and love.

Born in Paw Paw, Michigan on August 5th, 1962, Renee moved to Delray Beach when she was five. She attended St. Vincent Ferrer School and Atlantic High School, where she began dating the love of her life, high school sweetheart and husband of 34 years, David. Delray natives and childhood friends can hardly remember a time when they were not together. Renee attended Loyola University, New Orleans and earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration in 1984. Renee and David raised two beautiful daughters, Caroline and Katie, and embraced their sons-in-laws, Jared Gilman and Zach Sais, as their own. All were a constant source of joy in her life, and she admired watching them start to build their own loving families and happy lives.

Renee built a strong community in Delray. Renee was dependable, loyal and true. Renee’s daughters were her pride and joy. She was there cheering them on at every sporting event, school field trip, and milestone. She taught her daughters to be strong, kind and find joy in the little things in life.

Renee enjoyed playing tennis, boating, a good book, and traveling, especially to Islamorada. She had many fond memories of sunny days spent at The Ocean Club of Florida, where she made many cherished friendships. She had a big heart for dogs, especially her dachshunds.

We extend a special thank you to her friends for their endless support, love, and visits this year. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Renee leaves behind a close community, including her mother Nancy Winkler, sister Beth (Winkler) Boggs, and brother Matt Winkler.  She is predeceased by her father, Richard Winkler.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, 11AM at Unity of Delray Beach, 101 NW 22 St, Delray Beach, FL 33444.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to bring awareness to glioblastoma to help fund research to find a cure for this heartbreaking disease. Glioblastomafoundation.org

Not sure what to say?

I will always remember Renee as a young energetic person, older sister of one of my childhood friends. While attending college, Renee sold me my first PC which helped me obtain my degree in CS. My prayers go out to the Winkler family.

My sincere condolences, may God be with you all during this time. Having Renee as a childhood friend meant so much and I enjoyed witnessing the love and support within her family. We share so many fond memories within our group of girlfriends and I will cherish them forever. May you rest in peace Beautiful Renee.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I loved my years working at Hand’s in high school and college and babysitting for Caroline and Katie. Renee and David were always so kind to me. Praying for your family during this sad time. Sending lots of love and prayers to the family.

Condolences, and prayers for peace for your family at this difficult time. Keeping the fond memories of Renee in my heart. So sorry Dave, and for your family.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Hey Dave, sorry to hear about Renee. I always enjoyed how she popped in and out of my life since I was a kid. Wishing you and your children comfort and peace during this time'

We are beyond words, but wishing the family some time to reflect on all the beautiful memories that were made during these precious years you had with her, I know I have❤
