(Pumpkin) Marca met (Puddin) Mildred in Mobile, AL and soon after dating united in matrimony on June 9th, 1973 and remained united until his death. During his life he and his family moved from assignment to assignment both internationally and domestic. He ended his career at Fort Hood, Texas at the top rank of Command Sergeants Major. The second highest rank of an Enlisted Soldier. After his retirement from the Army in 2003. He began his next chapter as Civil Service employee working alongside an amazing cast of men and women who work to support the Soldiers and civilians of the Armed Forces. Marca was an active member of Grace Christian Center of Killeen, Texas where he spent many of his Sundays as an Usher and Greeter. In his spare time, he remained poised in fitness and was an avid golfer. Golf soon began to become his passion as he would travel to different destinations to assert himself at the 1st hole and finish on the 18th green. Marca was a talented man who always had a quiet yet humble demeanor. He loved his family entirely, and those who he considered friends were also his family. In his memory he came from a time in our history for a “black man thing” weren't always easy to ascertain yet through his faith, the support from his wife, and self-determination he was able to stand on the shoulders of giants. Once again God saw CSM Marco H. Ross, USASMA Class 41 getting tired and a cure was not to be so He put His arms around you and whispered come to me. You remind us, Lord, through Solomon that to everything there is a season. We thank You for the earthly life You gave to this sergeant major and for the blessing during the sojourn here on the earth. We most especially thank You for the new life You granted this sergeant major in Jesus Christ. He broke the bonds of death by His resurrection. ...

I met CSM (Retired) Ross, when he started working at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center, on Fort Hood. We shared the same home state of Illinois, and we often talked about the Chicago area being bitter cold, with snow and the wind, and how we liked the weather here, in Killeen. He was a kind man, and I am glad to have had the pleasure of working with him during our short time at the SRP. To the Ross Family, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
