Edward Henegar II died of cancer September 23, 2025, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Charlotte, N.C. His beloved wife, Julia Rorex Henegar, was by his side as she was throughout their 66 years of marriage. His last months were in the daily company of their Charlotte children,...

Not sure what to say?

To Judy and the family,
I was so inspired to read Ed's obituary. Thank you for sharing so many special things about him. I knew Ed when he did mission work in eastern KY in the 1960s. I'm the daughter of Bill and Isabel Brown who also did mission work in Guerrant/Transylvania Presbytery in the Hazard/Vicco area at that time. I knew Ed primarily from church camp (Highland) where he was a favorite leader for us young people. I loved him as a minister and appreciated the ways he helped me...

Judy,
Pastor Ed conducted Betty and my pre marital counseling. He married us at Duke Gardens on August 7th 1982. There were many memories that day. One of the more memorable was Becky fainting in the humidity & oppressive heat. We felt terrible. However, Duke Chapel was booked for over a year in advance. Ed's voice and presence relaxed us. Ed had to be as humble, thoughtful and joyful a man as I have ever met! And he raised his eyebrows at me when he discussed you! I think his love for...

Quite frankly, Ed Henegar was one of the finest
men I ever knew and a true Southern
gentleman! My cousin Gene Shepherd and I
had many meals and meaningful talks with
him over the years. He was one of the
ministers who officiated at my Mother's
funeral. That Henegar voice resonated
at any church or facility from which it
boomed. I can only imagine how many
lives he touched with a grace that would
be hard to match. I am proud to...

Thank you Henegar family for sharing Ed with so many of us, for encouraging him in his walk with God, and for your sacrifices allowing him to meet the needs of so many others. What an amazing blessing his life is and what a wonderful legacy and example he gave us all! I see that wonderfully warm, welcoming Ed Henegar smile and genuine heart as I think of him and I imagine he’s still smiling, now basking in the warm glow of the Light eternal, the source of his awesomeness. May the Comforter...

Ron and I are yet one more couple whose wedding was officiated by Ed Henegar. By God's grace, we are still enjoying that marriage 49 years later. I was nourished by his pastoring all my years at Duke University.

I have always been grateful for the meaningful and warm ministry of Ed and Judy Henegar. My life in Durham was as a student at the Duke University School of Nursing, graduating in June 1971. Under Ed's leadership, Blacknall Presbyterian Church was truly supportive of college students and served as a church home for many of us involved in Campus Crusade for Christ and Young Life at that time. Ed's congregation included people like Richard and Margaret Scearce, a beautiful (and tolerant!)...

What a wonderful gift Ed and Judy were to our family while we were at Blacknall in the 70s. We remember this time, sitting under Ed’s teaching, as some of our greatest spiritual growth as individuals and as a family. We also remember fondly the southern hospitality that Ed and Judy modeled so well, the unconditional love of Jesus. Grace and peace to you all. Glen and Gloria Van Andel

Upon moving to Durham in '92 to buy my funeral business, I was eager to meet the local clergy with whom I would be working. Fr. Tom Midyette, the rector of St. Philip's, told me my next stop without passing "go" was to meet Ed Henegar at Blacknall Church. Said Tom, "he is one of the most genuine pastors you will come to know. A real sweetheart." How right he was! Ed Henegar had the most exquisite pastoral skills one could imagine. What a privilege to serve alongside him in some of the most...

Ed was my pastor during my time at Duke University Medical Center. The fellowship at Blacknall was sweet and Ed officiated my wedding. He stayed in touch with my husband and me after he moved to the Charlotte area. When my husband, Jonathan, died six years ago he spoke at his funeral and he and Judy continued to minister to me. He was such a blessing and was still my pastor/friend during this difficult time. Mary
